The use of a Zettelkasten does not inherently improve one's ability to write

Previous: A Zettelkasten is a system for thinking and writing

The use of a Zettelkasten does not inherently improve one’s ability to write. Writing is a skill that develops on its own, regardless of the note-taking system used. The Zettelkasten does not preclude writers from needing to learn the ins and outs of their craft. And it can even lead writers who utilize it to forgo proper editing.

Writing isn’t only about knowing what should be included. It’s about knowing what to leave out…. writers who use a zettelkasten are sometimes criticized for being unable (or unwilling) to edit their work, not just for syntax, but for content. [1, pp. 129–130]
